Redundancy is Wrong
Redundancy:
On the SAT Writing test, sometimes you'll see questions about redundancy, which is when you use two words or phrases that mean the same thing. For example, if you say "I'm very happy and delighted," both "happy" and "delighted" mean the same thing, so you don't need to use both words.
Example:
The banana is from Southeast Asia and was initially domesticated for the first time in Papua New Guinea. Today, it is cultivated in hot climates throughout the world.
As you can see. it's redundant to say both "initially" and "first time" so any answer choice that keeps them both is WRONG.
Example:
Choice C is the best answer because it presents a verb tense that is consistent in the context of the sentence. The choice is also free of the redundant “it.” Choice A is incorrect because the subject “it” creates a redundancy. Choices B and D are incorrect because they present verb tenses that are inconsistent in the context of the sentence.
